What is special about Gateau de voyage?

Gateau de Voyage, which means Snacks of Travel in French, is a product based in Yokohama, near Tokyo. Yokohama is known for their international and globalized ambiance because it is one of the first ports that was opened for overseas.

Since then, they are the first place that introduced product from overseas, such as bread, curry or confectioneries. This is the reason why Gateau de Voyage was made in Yokohama and gained popularity.

Their main product is confectionery, especially the horse shoe pie. Why horse shoe? This is because the shape is believed to bring happiness and good fortune in European countries.

How is the taste of the confectionery?

We had an opportunity to try their main product, a horseshoe shape pie. The confectionery is made of thin layers and looks very fragile, with small sugar crystals on top.

Once we bite the confectionery, sweet sugar crystal gives a crunchy texture, with buttery aroma and crispy confectionery follows. It is made not too sweet but rich in butter flavor, so the taste is so polished and goes perfect with both tea and coffee.

All of their products are Halal-certified at Gateau de Voyaige?

The answer is unfortunately no. Let’s see the list of their Halal-certified items. Information as of November 2024.

Do you think confectionery is not a high-risk item?

The truth is, Japanese confectioneries can contain emulsifier and shortening, which can be derived from animal parts. Also, they may add liquor for flavoring, so it is always a good idea to see the ingredients carefully.
