ANA Halal Meal (MOML) Review: Everything Muslim Travelers Need to Know Before Flying to Japan

If you’re a Muslim traveler planning a trip to Japan, one of the first questions you may have is:

“Does ANA provide halal meals?”

The answer is yes.

ANA (All Nippon Airways), Japan’s largest full-service airline, offers a Muslim Meal (MOML) for passengers who request it before their flight. We recently flew with ANA and ordered the MOML to see exactly what Muslim travelers can expect.

Here’s our complete review.

What is ANA’s Muslim Meal (MOML)?

ANA provides a special Muslim Meal (MOML) prepared according to halal dietary requirements.

This meal is designed for Muslim passengers who avoid pork, alcohol, and non-halal meat.

Although meal contents may vary depending on the route and season, ANA carefully prepares the meal separately from the standard menu.

Here are some tips you should know before flying with ANA.

You Must Reserve the Halal Meal Before Your Flight

One important thing to know is that ANA’s halal meal cannot be requested after boarding.

You must reserve the MOML in advance, usually when booking your ticket or by contacting ANA before departure.

If you forget to request it, the airline may not be able to provide a halal meal during the flight.

What Happens After Boarding?

After we boarded, one of the cabin crew confirmed our Muslim meal reservation.

A small “MOML” sticker was placed on our seat, allowing the crew to identify passengers who had ordered the halal meal.

This simple process helps ensure the correct meal is served without confusion.

What’s Included in ANA’s Halal Meal?

Our meal included:

  • Rice cracker
  • A seasonal appetizer
  • Indian-style chicken curry
  • Bread
  • Mango pudding
  • Yuzu sorbet

The appetizer may change depending on the flight, but during our journey the main course was an Indian-style chicken curry.

We were also pleased to learn that the mango pudding, yuzu sorbet, and crackers were all halal-certified, meaning the entire meal—from the appetizer to dessert and snacks—was suitable for Muslim passengers.

Things You Should Know Before Ordering

Before requesting ANA’s Muslim Meal, keep these points in mind.

1. Only One Main Course Is Available

Unlike the regular inflight menu, the MOML does not offer multiple choices.

The airline serves only one halal main course.

2. The Curry Can Be Spicy for Children

The Indian-style chicken curry contains spices and may be too spicy for young children or passengers who are sensitive to spicy food.

Families traveling with children may want to prepare additional snacks if necessary, or order fruit meal (FPML) instead.

3. Advance Reservation Is Required

This is probably the most important point.

Without an advance reservation, ANA cannot guarantee a halal meal onboard.

Always arrange your MOML before your departure.

Is ANA a Good Choice for Muslim Travelers?

Based on our experience, yes.

The cabin crew clearly identified our halal meal reservation, the service was smooth, and most importantly, the entire meal—including desserts and snacks—was halal.

For Muslim travelers flying to Japan, ANA provides a reliable halal meal service that allows you to travel with confidence.
