Sendai is the capital city of Miyagi, which also could be considered as the capital of Tohoku region with 1.5 million population.
Miyagi is more like a big city, which means the city is less touristic. However, the transportation from another region is so convenient that you may be visiting the city somehow when visiting Tohoku. Access from Tokyo or Osaka, or even from Fukuoka is easy, too. There are also few international flights from Asian countries.
