Akita prefecture is a part of Tohoku region, and its capital is in Akita city (秋田). The prefecture has a long coastline of Japan Sea, and this results in cold and heavy snow during wintertime, with 90% of the prefecture is nominated as the special heavy snow area.
The prefecture is one of the renown producers of rice, which can be seen from the famous rice brand Akitakomachi (あきたこまち).
