Muslim-friendly “Vegetarian raw food” in Sapporo.

Many Muslims visiting Japan may think about an option of having a vegetarian food, because in most of the cases, they are free from meat and other animal-derived ingredients. However, even if we are to compromise the meat product, the food does not mean it is completely Halal because of seasonings that contain residual alcohol.

There is a restaurant that ensures the food is also free from alcoholic seasonings! The name is called LOHAS. Let’s tale a look at this restaurant in Sapporo, the northern capital of Japan.

What does the restaurant feature?

LOHAS is a restaurant that features so-called “raw food”, a way to prepare meals without a heating process or if they are to, not to exceed more than 48 degrees. Raw food uses more of fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds or yogurt, and it is said that we can take the nutrition as it is because the heat does not destroy the enzymes the food contains.

LOHAS has gluten-free meal, sweets made without refined sugar, diary or even wheat, and they also prepare Muslim-friendly meals!

They clearly mention which food is Vegan, Halal, Chinese vegetarian or Gluten-free!

Unlike other vegetarian restaurants, they are aware of the need from a Muslim traveler that many want to avoid the residual alcohol in the Japanese seasonings. When we take a look at the menu, they mention that they use Halal-certified soy sauce instead of normal sauce in Japan.

How is the food at LOHAS?

What we must try at LOHAS restaurants is their raw nuts Sushi. Yes, Sushi made with nuts! The Sushi is made with only nuts, vinegar and seaweed, and do not use any white rice or fish! The Sushi is accompanied by Halal soy sauce.

To our surprise, the tasted Sushi more than we expected! It has a flavor of Sushi even without white rice or fish, which was a pretty interesting experience for us.

Sushi without fish and rice

Their lunch menu also had large bowl of salad whose dressing was super yummy, cold potato soup and Takana horse raddish leaf pickeles. They even have a berry smoothie, nuts and dried fruit, and a small chocolate cake for a sweet finale!

This Detox plate us served as a lunch, and the price is 2,090 yen including 10% tax.
