The best selling Hokkaido’s souvenir
Shiroi Koibito (白い恋人) is widely known as Hokkaido’s best souvenir. Their sweet cookie called Langue-de-chat perfectly matches black or white chocolate. Although we have so many same products, this product is so different from other cookies.
However, we have to say that Shiroi Koibito is not free from haram ingredients unfortunately.
How can cookie and chocolate haram?
This is all because of their oil used. When we take a look at their ingredients, we can find shortening. This ingredient makes cookies flaky, but it can be manufactured from plant or animal.
Ishiya Seika, a manufacturer of Shiroi Koibito, has confirmed that their shortening is cow-derived. The shortening is refined so that there is no cow allergen, but it is enough reason to say that the product contains haram ingredient.
Also, in Ishiya Seika’s official website, we can find them saying “None of our products including Shiroi Koibito is Halal-certified”.
Is it worth visiting Shiroi Koibito park?
Shiroi Koibito Park is one of the popular touristic spots in Sapporo. The park has brick buildings that reminds us of European scenery.
They have free and paid area. In the paid area, visitors can learn how the chocolate is made, factory visiting, cooking class and cafe where you can enjoy their special product. Even in the free area, you can get to see their beautiful garden and shopping area.
What is great for Muslim visitors is that they have a prayer space. As they want to promote diversity, they have introduced this facility, so we hope that they produce Halal Shiroi Koibito in the near future!
