Entrance to Hokkaido.
New Chitose Airport is an entrance to Hokkaido. All the international and domestic flights from other prefectures land at this airport, which is the reason why there are quite many souvenir shops in the airport, as introduced in the article Finding Halal souvenirs in New Chitose Airport.
What about places to eat? Don’t worry, there are varieties of restaurants, and some of them are Halal and Muslim-friendly! We are sure that you can get all the necessary information just by reading this article.

Muslim-friendly in our website means the restaurants that are serving meals without ingredients from pork, alcohol or not religiously processed meat, yet not certified by the third party.
- Donburi Chaya
- Yoshoku Ken *Permanently closed and replaced by Royal Host.
No-Pork meals
Restaurants that serve No Pork meals but may be using seasoning that contain some alcohol. Most probably kitchen and utensils are handling pork and other meat, so avoid these restaurants if you do not want to dine where there is a risk of contamination.
Donburi Chaya
Donburi Chaya so far is the only Muslim-friendly restaurant. It has few branches in Hokkaido, and at New Chitose Airport. It is a restaurant that features Seafood bowl with more than 50 menus! Their seafood is carefully chosen and served at its best, and some of them have specialties from Hokkaido, like sweet corn and grilled fish.
The restaurant is Muslim-friendly, so there should be soy sauce without alcohol.

Yoshoku Ken
There was this Muslim-frindly restaurant before, but it is permanently closed. Now Royal Host is open instead.
No Pork meals
Gin shari (吟しゃり)
Gin shari is located at the food court of the airport and it serves rice balls and soba noodles. There are 27 ingredients that you can choose. What makes their simple rice balls great is that they make rice balls upon your order to ensure the fluffy texture!

Kyodo Ryori Yuk
Kyodo Ryori Yuk (郷土料理ユック) is a restaurant that serves local Hokkaido gourmet. As you may know that Hokkaido has fresh seafood, but the quality at Yuk is very great because they are licensed to buy freshest seafood from wholesale market. Their menu could vary depends on the day, as they only serve the best and the freshest seafood of the day.
They have seafood bowls, Tempura, Sushi and local dishes. Try the best seafood before you fly.

Raclette
Raclette is run by Hanabatake Bokujo, a famous factory which was founded by a Japanese comedian. This restaurant serves pizza and pasta, using ingredients from Hokkaido.
Unfortunately, their special menu, Raclette, comes with pork. Though you cannot enjoy this specialty, their cheese, corn or Genovese pizza are of great quality, and we are sure you can enjoy their great cheese!
You can also check their famous Nama Caramel.

*Avoid tomato pasta, as pork meat is used inside the sauce.
Royal Host
There was a Muslim-friendly restaurant called Yoshoku Ken, but unfortunately the restaurant is now closed, and it is replaced by this chain restaurant.
The great thing about this restaurant is that it is the only restaurant which is open from very early morning. If you choose Japanese-style breakfast, which is grilled salmon, it comes without pork or other meat ingredients.

Meal Lounge
Meal lounge is also an Italian restaurant that serves pasta and pizza. They are not halal or Muslim-friendly, but there are some vegetarian options. It could have alcoholic seasonings, but at least no animal-derived ingredients.

Where are the restaurants?
All of the restaurants introduced are located at the 3rd floor of New Chitose Airport. All of the restaurants except for Gin shari are independent, while Gin shari is located in the food court.
As of March 2023, unfortunately there is no Halal certified restaurants, however, there are quite a few restaurants that serve No Pork meals. Because of pandemic, there might be few changes made, so please check with the staff at the restaurants before ordering. You can check with them with the following phrases.
