Asahikawa

Sanpei, Muslim-friendly Ramen in Asahikawa, Hokkaido!

2 hours away from Sapporo, Hokkaido.

Asahikawa is the swecond biggest city in Hokkaido, northern part of Japan. As you know, Hokkaido is one of the most touristic areas in Japan for their beautiful snow, food and sceneries, but did you know that the place is also an animal kingdom?

Asahikawa, though the city is relatively big, is not so much known to tourists. But they have quite a few Halal or Muslim-friendly restaurants, and Asahikawa Sanpei is one of them. Let’s see what we can enjoy in this restuarant.

Want to know the list of Halal restaurants in Hokkaido?

One of the most famous Ramen restaurants in Asahikawa.

Hokkaido is famous for food, especially Ramen. In the harsh and long winter, Ramen warms up not only stomach but also people’s heart. Asahikawa is said to be the birthplace for Shoyu soy sauce Ramen.

Although Ramen is a favorite food for tourists, unfortunately many of them are not suitable for Muslim travelers because they contain broth made from animal bones and/or meat.

Asahikawa Sanpei (旭川三平) is a popular Ramen restaurant in Asahikawa, and the great thing is that they serve Muslim-friendly Chicken Ramen!

The restaurant is known for their spicy soup! To our surprise, we can choose the level of hotness when ordering, level 1 to 6.

They are serving Muslim-friendly menu, but yet to be certified by third party authority. As you can see their Halal policy in the menu, the kitchen does not only handle Halal meat, which we should be aware of before the visit.

How is their Muslim-friendly Ramen?

Their Halal Ramen is Chicken broth with Miso paste broth!

What surprises us the most is their quantity! As you can see, they put so much beansprout and it was almost impossible to finish the Ramen.

Although they say it is a Miso paste, the soup is more like salt and soy sauce flavor. As chicken is used and no food additives are used, the soup is milder and lighter than other normal Japanese Ramens.
