Sapporo overview
Here is the overview of the city.
How many days do we need? | As traveling to Hokkaido takes time, we recommend dedicating at least 3 days of your itinerary to Sapporo if you are flying from another city. If you plan to visit other cities such as Otaru, Obihiro, Asahikawa, or Shiretoko, you will need an additional 2-3 days for each. |
Access to the city | Most people take a flight from Tokyo or Osaka, there are numerous companies flying to New Chitose Airport. Some Asian airlines have direct flight to New Chitose Airport. Some people take a train or ferry ride from Aomori prefecture, which takes about 5 hours. Access from airport to city center is convenient, with trains and buses all available, which takes about 1 hour. |
Where are the city centers? Where should tourist stay? | The city center is called Odori. This street extends all the way to Sapporo Station, where you can enjoy a complete shopping and dining experience. Tanuki Koji is a shopping arcade with souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. The Nishi 11-chome area also offers hotel options and is very convenient. |
How is Halal food situation? | Hokkaido and Sapporo offer some Halal options, including the local specialty lamb BBQ called Genghis Khan. Seafood is another must-try for Muslims visiting the area. However, the number of Halal options is very limited, so making a reservation in advance is highly recommended. |
What are the main touristic attractions? | 1) Hokkaido University (especially foliage) 2) Shiroi Koibito Park 3) Sapporo TV Tower and Odori Park 4) Snow Festival (early February) 5) Maruyama Zoo 6) Hokkaido Jingu and Maruyama area 7) Mt.
